Vijay Deverakonda (Deverakonda Vijay Sai) is an Indian actor and film producer who works in Telugu cinema. He became a star with Pellichoopulu (2016) and Arjun Reddy (2017). The second won him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu for his role as a volatile surgeon. His honours also include a Nandi Award and three SIIMA Awards.
He was born on 9 May 1989 in Hyderabad, according to Wikipedia and Wikidata. His family is from Thummanpeta in the former Mahbubnagar district. Career
He made his debut in Ravi Babu’s Nuvvila (2011) and had a small role in Sekhar Kammula’s Life Is Beautiful (2012). Nag Ashwin cast him in a supporting role in Yevade Subramanyam (2015), opposite Nani, which drew praise. His first lead was Tharun Bhascker’s Pellichoopulu (2016), a commercial success that won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu (64th National Film Awards).
After Dwaraka (2017), Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Arjun Reddy drew both praise and criticism for its boldness. His performance as a self-destructive surgeon was widely acclaimed and won him the Filmfare award. In 2018 he had a pivotal role in Nag Ashwin’s Mahanati, and starred in the delayed Ye Mantram Vesave and Taxiwala. His most successful film that year was Parasuram’s Geetha Govindam, in which he played a naive, nervous college professor opposite Rashmika Mandanna.
Wikipedia describes the period since 2019 as a career decline. Dear Comrade (2019) and World Famous Lover (2020) followed. Puri Jagannadh’s Hindi-Telugu bilingual Liger (2022) opened to highly negative reviews, Shiva Nirvana’s Kushi (2023), with Samantha, to mixed reviews, and The Family Star (2024) was a box-office failure. He made a cameo as the warrior Arjuna in Kalki 2898 AD (2024). Gowtham Tinnanuri’s Kingdom (2025) was an average grosser, and Sing Geetham was released in June 2026. He also appeared in Jathi Ratnalu (2021).
His production house, King of the Hill Entertainment, made Meeku Maathrame Cheptha (2019) and Pushpaka Vimanam (2021). He launched the clothing brand Rowdy Wear in 2018 and founded The Deverakonda Foundation in 2019.
