Bruce Lee: The Fighter is a 2015 Telugu-language action comedy directed by Srinu Vaitla and produced by D. V. V. Danayya under DVV Entertainments. It stars Ram Charan, with Arun Vijay, Rakul Preet Singh, Kriti Kharbanda, Sampath Raj and Nadhiya, and a cameo by Chiranjeevi. Released on 16 October 2015, it received negative reviews and was a box office bomb.
Story
Karthik gives up his own studies so that his sister can pursue her dream of becoming a collector. Years later, known as Bruce Lee, he works as a stuntman and body double. When Ria, a game designer, mistakes him for a police officer, he plays along, and the pretence draws him into the schemes of a drug dealer, Deepak Raj, and his father.
Cast
- Ram Charan as Karthik
- Rakul Preet Singh as Ria
- Arun Vijay as the lead antagonist, in his Telugu debut
- Kriti Kharbanda, Sampath Raj and Nadhiya
- Brahmanandam, Rao Ramesh and Brahmaji; Chiranjeevi in a cameo of about fifteen minutes
Development and casting
Vaitla narrated the story to Ram Charan in March 2014 and developed it after Aagadu. The project briefly stalled and was revived in late 2014, and was launched on 5 March 2015 at Danayya’s office. It was reportedly inspired by the 1985 film Vijetha, with one subplot said to draw on the French film The Valet. Samantha was first cast as a heroine but was replaced by Rakul Preet Singh, and Arun Vijay was chosen as the villain after the makers saw him in Yennai Arindhaal. The title Bruce Lee reflected the hero’s work as a stunt double.
Filming and music
The film was shot across Hyderabad, Spain and Bangkok in 110 working days of 15 hours each. S. Thaman composed the music, Manoj Paramahamsa was the cinematographer and M. R. Varma the editor.
Release and legacy
Released during Navaratri on 16 October 2015, the film was panned by critics and failed at the box office. It was later remade in Bangladesh as Beporowa, and remains Kriti Kharbanda’s last Telugu film.

What critics said
The article describes negative reviews: critics liked Ram Charan's dancing and Chiranjeevi's cameo, but found the film formulaic.
- The Hindu (Sangeetha Devi Dundoo) noted Ram Charan's improvement as an actor but wanted him in a project that does not belittle his fans.
- The Times of India (Karthik Pasupulate) found the gags a dampener and said enjoyment depends on how big a Chiranjeevi fan you are.
- India Today (Kirubhakar Purushothaman) said it plays out exactly as predicted, yet does not disappoint.
- Sify called Chiranjeevi's cameo, the songs and a decent first half the only saving grace of a run-of-the-mill film.
- Bangalore Mirror called it “strictly passable fare”.
- Behindwoods wished it had leaned more on action than on the old commercial model.
Box office: the article reports more than ₹77 crore gross worldwide at the end of seven days.
