Bengal Tiger is a 2015 Indian Telugu-language action comedy written and directed by Sampath Nandi and produced by K. K. Radhamohan’s Sri Satya Sai Arts. It stars Ravi Teja, Tamannaah Bhatia and Raashii Khanna, with Boman Irani, Nassar, Nagineedu, Rao Ramesh and Sayaji Shinde in supporting roles. Released on 10 December 2015 to mixed reviews, it was a success, grossing over ₹40.5 crore according to the source.
Story
Akash Narayan, an aimless young man from Atreyapuram, is rejected by a girl who wants to marry someone famous. To make a name for himself, he throws a stone at the agriculture minister, who is impressed by his wit and hires him to escort the home minister’s daughter, Shraddha. His rise brings him into conflict with a clever chief minister, Ashok Gajapati, against whom he has a hidden score to settle.
Development
Sampath Nandi had been due to direct the Gabbar Singh sequel. After leaving that long-delayed project, he turned to a script he had written with Ravi Teja in mind, and reused two fight scenes from the sequel’s script. Ravi Teja started after finishing Kick 2. Bheems Ceciroleo, Nandi’s protégé, composed the music, Soundararajan was the cinematographer and Gautham Raju the editor. The film was launched at Ramanaidu Studios on 30 January 2015.
Casting
Ravi Teja plays Akash Narayan, a computer graduate whose life changes after an insult. Tamannaah, who had starred in Nandi’s Racha, was cast because Ravi Teja wanted to work with her. Raashii Khanna was signed after Nandi saw her in Jil, and she said the two heroines had equally important roles. Harshvardhan Rane and Aksha Pardasany made cameo appearances, and Hamsa Nandini appeared in a special song.
Filming
Principal photography began on 4 March 2015 at Ramoji Film City. Later schedules took place at Chilkur and Shamshabad around Hyderabad, including scenes on a railway station set.
Release
The film was released worldwide on 10 December 2015. Reviews from critics and audiences were mixed, but it became a commercial success.
