Pantham (“stubbornness”) is a 2018 Telugu action heist drama directed by K. Chakravarthy Reddy in his debut, and produced under Sri Sathya Sai Arts. It is Gopichand‘s 25th film, with Mehreen Pirzada as the female lead. It was released worldwide on 5 July 2018, after an earlier plan for May, and is streaming on Sun NXT.
What the story is about
A hi-tech thief carries out a series of robberies on corrupt politicians, stealing their black money to help the needy. When he hits the house of the home minister, Jayendra, known as Nayak Bhai, a special officer is put on his trail, and a flashback reveals who he really is: Vikranth Surana, an NRI millionaire with a cause. The film carried the tagline “For a Cause”, and The Hindu describes it as a Robin Hood-style drama.

Gopi Sundar composed the music, released by Mango Music, with lyrics by Bhaskarabhatla Ravi Kumar. Prasad Murella shot the film, A. S. Prakash was the art director and Ramesh Reddy wrote the dialogue. K. Chakravarthy Reddy had earlier written screenplays for films such as Balupu, Power and Jai Lava Kusa.
What critics said
Reviews were mixed. 123telugu gave it 3/5, calling it a passable social drama with a decent message despite an outdated story, and The Times of India gave 2.5/5, “purely for Gopichand fans”, according to Wikipedia. The Hindu found it past its expiry date despite entertaining portions, but among Gopichand’s better recent films, and Telugu360 rated it 2.5/5 (“Outdated!”). Wikipedia records it as a commercial failure.
