Srinivasa Kalyanam

Srinivasa Kalyanam (“the wedding of Srinivasa”) is a 2018 Telugu romantic family drama directed by Satish Vegesna and produced by Dil Raju under Sri Venkateswara Creations. Nithiin and Raashi Khanna play the lead pair, with Nandita Swetha, Prakash Raj and Jayasudha. It was released on 9 August 2018 and runs 140 minutes.

What the story is about

Vasu, an architect working in Chandigarh, grew up in a joint family and believes, as his grandmother taught him, that a wedding is a festival and not just an event. He falls in love with Sri, the daughter of R. K., a business tycoon who treats marriage as a formality not worth much time. R. K. agrees to the match on one condition, and the film follows the wedding preparations as Vasu tries to win him over to the family’s way of celebrating.

Music and crew

Mickey J. Meyer composed the music, released on Aditya Music; the lyrics are by Ramajogayya Sastry and Sri Mani. Sameer Reddy is the cinematographer. Venkatesh lent his voice to the film’s narration, as Deccan Chronicle reported before the release, and the film carries a U certificate according to idlebrain.

Reception

Wikipedia records lukewarm reviews and a commercial failure at the box office, although its dubbed versions later became popular on YouTube; it was released in Hindi under the same name in 2019 and in Tamil as Kalyana Vaibhogam. The Hindu compared it to a long wedding video with a preachy tone. India Today found the premise interesting but the treatment one-dimensional, and The Times of India rated it 2.5/5. Telugu360 was kinder at 3/5, recommending it to family audiences for its picture of a traditional Telugu wedding.
