Katamarayudu is a 2017 Indian Telugu-language action comedy directed by Kishore Kumar Pardasani. It stars Pawan Kalyan and Shruti Haasan, with Tarun Arora, Siva Balaji, Ajay, Ali, Kamal Kamaraju, Chaitanya Krishna, Pradeep Rawat and Rao Ramesh in supporting roles. A remake of the 2014 Tamil film Veeram, it was released worldwide on 24 March 2017 and was also dubbed into Malayalam.
Story
Katamarayudu, known as Katama, is a brave, selfless man in the village of Oddaanchatram who lives for his four younger brothers. He refuses to marry, fearing a wife would come between them, so his brothers hide their own girlfriends from him. To win his approval, they set out to find the girl he once loved.
Development
After Sardaar Gabbar Singh (2016), Pawan Kalyan announced a Telugu remake of Veeram, even though the Tamil film had already been dubbed into Telugu as Veerudokkade. The title comes from a song Pawan sang in Attarintiki Daredi (2013). S. J. Suryah was first set to direct but left to focus on acting. Kishore Kumar Pardasani replaced him, reuniting with Pawan after Gopala Gopala (2015).
Production
Shooting began on 24 September in Secunderabad. Prasad Murella replaced the original cinematographer, and Gautham Raju edited the film.
Music
Anup Rubens composed the soundtrack, released by Aditya Music. Opinions were split. Great Andhra called it one of the weakest albums of Pawan Kalyan’s career, while Milliblog found it a simple, likeable commercial album.
Release
The film was released worldwide on 24 March 2017, alongside a Malayalam dubbed version under the same title.
