Nela Ticket (transl. Lower-Class Ticket) is a 2018 Indian Telugu-language action comedy directed by Kalyan Krishna Kurasala and produced by Ram Talluri under SRT Entertainments. It stars Ravi Teja, Malvika Sharma and Jagapathi Babu, with music by Shakthikanth Karthick. It was released worldwide on 25 May 2018 and was panned by critics.
Story
Nela Ticket, played by Ravi Teja, is an orphan raised in a Bangalore orphanage belonging to Ananda Bhupathi. Ananda is murdered by his own son, Aditya Bhupathi, who goes on to become Home Minister. A clash between Nela Ticket and Aditya’s men puts the two on a collision course, and Nela Ticket sets out to bring Aditya to justice.
Development
In August 2016, US-based NRI Ram Talluri signed Ravi Teja for his next film. After a long delay, Kalyan Krishna joined as director in December 2017. Mumbai-based model Malvika Sharma was signed as the female lead in her screen debut. Jagapathi Babu was cast as the main antagonist, and Shakthikanth Karthick joined as composer.
Filming and music
Principal photography began in Hyderabad on 5 January 2018 and wrapped in early May 2018. Lahari Music released the soundtrack, and Pawan Kalyan attended the audio launch on 10 May 2018.
Release
The film opened in theatres worldwide on 25 May 2018.
Reception
The Times of India gave it 1.5 out of 5. It called the film loud, boorish and predictable, with mindless action, love at first sight and a dozen comedians who fail to raise a laugh. Hindustan Times also gave it 1.5 and criticised it for insensitive jokes about sexual violence and the hero’s stalker-like behaviour, urging Telugu cinema to drop such tropes.
