Agnyaathavaasi (lit. “A man in exile”) is a 2018 Indian Telugu-language action comedy written and directed by Trivikram Srinivas and produced by S. Radha Krishna. It stars Pawan Kalyan, Aadhi Pinisetty, Keerthy Suresh and Anu Emmanuel. It was released for Sankranti on 10 January 2018. Reviews were strongly negative, and the film was a box-office failure.
Story
Govinda “Vindha” Bhargav, a powerful businessman, loses his younger son in a car accident in Italy and is then killed by gunmen. Before he dies, he records his friends Sarma and Varma admitting they planned both deaths to take over his business empire. His widow, Indrani, finds the recording and, through Appaji, the brother of Vindha’s late first wife, summons an unknown person to deal with the crisis.
Production
Shooting began on 3 April 2017 with a scene at Ciclo Cafe. It then moved to a set at Ramoji Film City for an action sequence, with more work at Annapurna Studios. A major sequence and a song were filmed in Bangkok. On 26 October 2017 the unit spent 15 days in Bulgaria shooting two songs. Filming finished in Hyderabad by the end of November 2017, after a short stint in Varanasi. Manikandan was the cinematographer. After this film, Pawan Kalyan turned to his campaign for the 2019 Andhra Pradesh election.
Music
Anirudh Ravichander made his Telugu debut with the soundtrack. The first song, “Baitikochi Chusthe”, was released on 1 January 2018, the director’s birthday.
Release
After its theatrical run, the film streamed on Sun NXT, and Gemini TV holds the satellite rights. It was dubbed into Hindi as Yevadu 3, into Malayalam as Yuvarajavu and into Tamil as Maraivaasi for television.
Reception and box office
Critics faulted the direction, screenplay and pacing but appreciated the music and cinematography. The Times of India gave it 2.5 out of 5, and The Indian Express said it was strictly for Pawan Kalyan’s fans. The film was also accused of copying the French film Largo Winch. According to the source, it earned roughly ₹60 crore, about half its investment, leaving all its distributors with losses.

What critics said
Reviews cited in the article were largely negative: critics credited Pawan Kalyan, the cinematography and the music, but found the film unsalvageable.

- The Indian Express (Manoj Kumar R) called it strictly for Pawan Kalyan's fans.
- The Hindu (Sangeetha Devi Dundoo) praised the cinematography and Anirudh Ravichander's music, but said they are not enough to salvage it.
- Variety (Joe Layden) described a “ferociously eager-to-please musical melodrama”.
Box office: the article reports an opening-day gross of ₹60.5 crore, followed by heavy drops.
