Harish Uthaman (born 5 April 1982) is an Indian actor who works in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films. After a lead debut in Tha (2010), he became known for villain roles in films such as Gouravam (2013), Pandiya Naadu (2013), Power (2014) and Srimanthudu (2015).
Early life
Harish was born in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, into a Malayali family. Before acting he worked as cabin crew for three years with Paramount Airways and three with British Airways, and then briefly at a commercials company in Chennai.
Debut
Director Suriya Prabhakaran cast him as the lead in the low-budget Tamil romance Tha (2010). He grew a beard for five months and darkened his skin for the part; the film went largely unnoticed, but critics found him apt, and at a Tamil film festival in Norway he won a Best Newcomer award and met the director Radha Mohan.
Villain and character roles
Radha Mohan cast him as a villain in the bilingual Gouravam, and his antagonist in Suseenthiran’s Pandiya Naadu won critical acclaim. He has since played many character and police roles alongside leading South Indian stars, including in the Telugu films Power and Srimanthudu. His villain in the Telugu film Naandhi (2021), with Allari Naresh, drew a strong response.
Recent work
He appeared in Suseenthiran’s Veerapandiyapuram and Kuttram Kuttrame (2022), led the thriller Noodles (2023), and appeared in the Malayalam anthology series Manorathangal and opposite Tovino Thomas in Ajayante Randam Moshanam (2024).
Personal life
In 2022 he married the Malayalam actress Chinnu Kuruvila.
