Rahul Ramakrishna (born 15 January 1991) is an Indian actor, writer and journalist. He began with the short film Sainma and shot to popularity as Shiva, the hero’s loyal friend, in Arjun Reddy (2017).
Early life
Rahul was born in Hyderabad, Telangana. His father was a yoga instructor and his mother is an assistant editor at a business magazine. He studied mechanical engineering at VJIT but left after the second year.
Journalism and writing
Before acting, he worked as a journalist for the evening dailies Post Noon and Metro India, and as a translator for visiting journalists. He also wrote film reviews for a website affiliated with Hindustan Times, and worked as a songwriter, screenwriter and cookery-show presenter. He has written lyrics for Sainma, Pelli Choopulu and Keedaa Cola.
Early acting
A theatre enthusiast, he worked on production crews for several groups. He credits a workshop with playwright N. Madhusudan and Dr. Sagari Ramdas with sparking his interest in acting. His first role was in Tharun Bhascker‘s short film Sainma, which was widely praised. He then played the hero’s comic friend in Jayammu Nischayammu Raa, starring Srinivasa Reddy.
Arjun Reddy and after
His role as Shiva in Arjun Reddy, the lead’s witty and loyal friend, won him a large following. It led to important roles in 2018 films such as Bharat Ane Nenu, Sammohanam and Chi La Sow.
Later films
He reprised the hero’s-best-friend combination with Vijay Deverakonda in Geetha Govindam, and in 2020 he appeared in Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo.
