Ravi Prakash (born 4 December 1978) is an Indian actor who works mainly in Telugu and Tamil films. After a brief start as a lead actor, he built a career in substantial supporting roles, often playing police officers.
Early life
Ravi Prakash was born in Vijayawada and grew up in Visakhapatnam. After school he chose medicine and studied for his MBBS degree in Russia. During university holidays he modelled in Visakhapatnam and attended the Satyanand Acting Institute with friends.
Debut
Ushakiran Movies spotted him and cast him as the lead in Subhavela (2000), where he was credited as Ravikanth. The film drew mixed reviews and went unnoticed at the box office.
Return to films
After that failure he went back to finish his degree and trained as a house surgeon before committing fully to films. On his return he took a small role in Eeswar (2002) and gradually found a niche in larger supporting parts.
Supporting roles in Telugu
He played police officers in Gautham Vasudev Menon’s Gharshana (2004) and Trivikram Srinivas‘s Athadu (2005).
Tamil films
In the early 2010s he worked more in Tamil cinema. He played a pilot in the heist drama Payanam (2011), a police officer in the anthology film Vaanam (2011), and a villain in K. V. Anand’s action drama Maattrraan (2012). He was also the hero’s supportive brother in Gautham Menon’s Neethaane En Ponvasantham (2012).
